The foundation of our Christian child care centre in Brisbane’s north

We believe a values-led education helps give young children essential guidelines for life that will help them in any undertaking at any age. All children need and respond well to boundaries and routine. Values are another form of boundaries that help shape and build character.

Tiny Town values Christian ideals like love, forgiveness, respecting and serving others, equality, inclusiveness and care for the environment. We do this through our daily practices, interactions, role modelling and Bible stories, and by creating a warm and nurturing environment of Christian love.

Teachings of Jesus

  • Start with Love

Jesus taught his first disciples that the most important commandment was to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30

He urged his followers to put their trust in God and to place God front and centre of their consciousness. This helps us to honour God in all our actions and thoughts.

Through talking about faith, children gain an understanding of faith, belief and trusting in something that is not seen, but something that works towards a greater purpose that will be revealed in the fullness of time.

Through embracing faith, children learn that they have a friend in Jesus and they are not alone.  For example, learning about the resurrection of Jesus provides them a pathway to loved ones they may lose and a way to deal with sadness and the unknown. Faith helps develop resilience.

  • Be Thankful

Before every meal at Tiny Town we say grace. We teach and help children understand the importance of gratitude and being appreciative of what we have.

  • Love One Another

“Love your neighbour as yourself.” Mark 12:31

“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34

Jesus loved everyone; he did not discriminate. He treated everyone equally and with respect and truth. This ideal helps us explore what it means to love someone, to support them, to share with them, to be accepting of people who are different to us (e.g. other cultures, special needs, different families), to have empathy, to make sacrifices, to live in harmony.

  • Treat Others Well

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” Matthew 7:12

Jesus taught us to be forgiving and not vengeful. This scripture promotes a universal message of peace, thoughtfulness and respect for others including the environment. It teaches us to pause before doing something hurtful or something we might regret.
