What this means to families in Brisbane’s Northwest

With experts claiming that 90% of a child’s brain is developed by the time they reach 5 years of age, deciding who to trust with your child’s early education is critical.

We recognise that early education is much more than 1, 2, 3 and A, B, C. It’s about character formation and providing the right environment for your child – one that is supportive and proven in delivering great learning outcomes and attitudes.

Based in Brisbane’s Northwest, Tiny Town is a centrally located, easily accessible long day care Centre that has been providing holistic care and education for over 45 years. We aim to foster a love of learning so that children who come here, flourish, and leave, ready to embrace their next stage in life.

Here’s how our Centre is different to many others:

  • Not for profit

We are an outreach program of the Emmanuel Uniting Church and a not for profit organisation. Our aim is to offer quality child care that is affordable, with any surplus funds going into the improvement of the Centre and staff training.

  • Small size

We only cater for a maximum of 24 children per day. This ensures our service is personal, that children do not feel overwhelmed or “institutionalised”, that the Centre is comfortable and familiar.

  • Play-based Learning

At Tiny Town, as much as possible we cultivate a play-based learning environment as repetition through play consolidates learning. Studies also show play-based learning raises children’s academic and developmental learning outcomes.

  • A sense of belonging

Children who attend Tiny Town fondly and definitively say they go to ‘Tiny Town’, not ‘day care’ or ‘Kindy’. It is a special place for them with special meaning – a place where they feel they belong.

  • Higher Staff to Child Ratio

Our commitment to providing quality care and developmental learning is evident in many aspects including our commitment to a high staff to child ratio.

  • Siblings Together

Our small inclusive group enables siblings to be together, or safely within sight of one another. It also enables mentoring and fast learning through peer-based learning.

  • 2 and over

Children must be 2 years old to attend Tiny Town. Staff support our 2 year olds to develop confidence in being with their peers and away from family while they are at Tiny Town.

  • Christian Based

We gently weave Christian teachings, role modelling, values and practise into many parts of our day, helping our children learn to be kind, loving and respectful.

  • Diverse, inclusive staff

We believe it’s important for children to have positive role models that they can identify with as this enhances their sense of belonging. We are committed to having diverse staff, which currently includes male and female educators, and educators from a mix of cultural backgrounds.
